Christine Borland is now showing in 'With Practice' at Newlyn Art Gallery, as part of a series of exhibitions around Cornwall called 'Social Systems', organised by ProjectBase.
The experience left me feeling as if I'd visited someone in hospital. The exhibition utilizes Conceptual Art practice and multimedia, in a didactic way, which encourages visitors to the gallery to participate in realizing the art work.
One section of the exhibition gave the opportunity to both make and stitch up wounds on artificial limbs.
A Powerpoint presentation documented the medical procedures and processes involved in the treatment of the subject of the work.
Downstairs in the gallery was footage of an artificial body, which can be animated for medical students to practice on. The film shows the virtual body 'breathing' and captures the sense of drama in medical practice.

The exhibition lasts until 2nd September 2007
